Marshall County Schools Demonstrates Academic Growth Despite Higher State Accountability Standards
HOLLY SPRINGS, MS – Marshall County School District is celebrating measurable academic progress following the release of Mississippi's 2026 accountability results. Although the district received an overall letter grade of C under the state's newly increased accountability cut scores, the district's total accountability points increased from 602 in 2025 to 612 in 2026, demonstrating continued improvement in student achievement.
Among the district's most significant accomplishments were increases in English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency from 34.9% to 39.6%, mathematics proficiency from 33.8% to 38.7%, and science performance from 45.1% to 58.5%.
H.W. Byers Elementary School earned an A rating, while Potts Camp High School earned a B rating, highlighting strong academic performance across the district.
"While our district's letter grade changed due to the state's increased accountability standards, our students actually earned more accountability points than last year," said Dr. Carrie Skelton, Superintendent of Marshall County Schools. "That distinction is important. Even though the state changed the goalpost for success this year, the Marshall County School District improved from the previous year. Our teachers and students are making measurable academic gains, and those accomplishments deserve recognition."
Dr. Skelton emphasized that the district remains focused on strengthening classroom instruction, increasing academic rigor, and ensuring that all students have opportunities to succeed.
"We recognize that there is still work to be done, but we are encouraged by the progress taking place in our classrooms," Skelton added. "I am extremely proud of our teachers, administrators, staff, and students for their dedication and hard work. We will continue building on these successes while remaining committed to higher expectations and improved outcomes for every student."
Marshall County Schools remains committed to its mission of continuous improvement and educational excellence.
